Chemical rust removers work on the surface. Wire brushes work where you can reach with the brush head. Neither gets into pits, recesses, weld seams, or irregular surfaces properly. For anything that needs clean bare metal — chassis prep, restoring old machinery, stripping corroded garden tools, preparing welded fabrications for primer — you need abrasive blasting. This air sandblasting kit connects to a standard workshop compressor and puts that capability on your bench without a dedicated cabinet or specialist equipment.
The kit is built around a cast aluminium pistol-grip gun with an aspirator blaster mechanism that siphons abrasive media up from a container through the 1.5m siphon hose using the venturi effect of the compressed air. The 5mm air jet drives the media at working velocity across the 30–73 PSI operating range, and three interchangeable nozzle tips allow the blast pattern to be changed between narrow-focus detail work and broader surface coverage. The 1/4" BSP air inlet connects directly to the output of most workshop and garage compressors without adapters.
Everything in the kit:
Cast aluminium pistol blaster gun — the main gun body, shaped pistol grip handle and trigger control. Cast alloy construction is more durable under sustained blasting conditions than a plastic body, and handles the internal pressure and abrasive media flow without degrading over time.
Pick-up tube — the intake tube that sits in the abrasive container. Sand, aluminium oxide, glass bead, or any suitable dry blasting medium is drawn up through this tube as air flows through the gun.
1.5m (5ft) siphon hose — flexible hose connecting the media pickup to the gun. Long enough to keep the container stable below the work area while the gun is being directed at the surface.
3 extra nozzles — interchangeable tips alongside the standard fitted nozzle. Different profiles suit different tasks — narrower for focused work on specific corrosion areas, wider for flat surface stripping.
5mm (13/64") air jet — the jet that creates the aspirator effect. Sized to operate efficiently within the 30–73 PSI range delivered by a standard compressor.
Operating pressure: 30–73 PSI through a 1/4" BSP air inlet. Lower end of the range for softer materials and more controlled work; upper end for heavy rust, scale, and thick paint removal. The compressor needs to deliver consistent pressure within this range at adequate volume (CFM) for sustained blasting performance.
What makes this kit practical:
- Cast aluminium gun body — more robust than plastic for sustained use; handles the stress of high-pressure compressed air and continuous abrasive media flow
- Siphon aspirator system — draws media from an open container using the venturi effect; no pressure pot or sealed vessel needed, which keeps the setup simple and low maintenance
- 1.5m siphon hose — enough reach to keep the abrasive container in a stable position below the work piece while directing the gun freely
- Three interchangeable nozzles — change the blast profile between detail and wide-area work without needing a second gun
- Standard 1/4" BSP inlet — fits directly to most workshop compressor outputs; no specialist adapters required
- Also suitable for liquid cleaning — the gun design handles compressed air cleaning of surfaces and parts without abrasive media where a less aggressive approach is needed
Where this gets used: Rust and corrosion removal from vehicle chassis and body panels, stripping old paint and coatings from metal components before repainting, preparing welded fabrications by removing mill scale and spatter, restoring garden tools and machinery, cleaning engine components and cast parts, and any surface preparation task where wire brushing and chemical treatment cannot get the surface clean enough.
⚠️ Safety: Always wear appropriate eye protection and a fine-particle dust mask during blasting. Work in a well-ventilated area or outdoors. Fine abrasive dust is a respiratory and eye hazard during operation.
