A Board That Works Both Ways

Most cutting boards have one usable surface. This one has two. Flip it over and you have a fresh side for a different ingredient, which matters when you are switching between raw meat and vegetables and do not want to stop mid-prep to wash the board. At 30cm by 20cm it is a practical everyday size — large enough to work with comfortably on a standard kitchen worktop, small enough to store upright in a cupboard or hang on the wall through the metal ring at the top without taking up space you do not have.

Bamboo is harder than most softwoods used for cutting boards, which means it takes knife marks more slowly and keeps its surface looking clean for longer. It does not absorb odours the way some wood boards do, and it does not transfer any taste or smell to food even with repeated daily use.

Design and Build

  • Natural bamboo construction with a striped grain pattern running the length of the board — the light and dark stripe variation is a natural feature of the bamboo rather than any applied finish or staining
  • Both flat faces are smooth and fully usable as cutting surfaces — no raised edges, branding or texture on either side that limits which way up the board sits
  • Metal hanging ring fixed through the top corner of the board — lets the board hang on a hook or kitchen rail for storage and drying rather than taking up worktop or drawer space
  • Lightweight build for the board size — easy to pick up, move and handle one-handed while the other hand holds the food
  • Rounded corners and smooth edges on all four sides — no sharp edges or rough spots on the frame of the board
  • Non-toxic and odourless material — bamboo does not require chemical treatments to maintain its surface the way some composite boards do

In Use

  • Works for chopping, slicing and dicing vegetables, fruit, bread, cheese and cooked meat — the everyday prep tasks a kitchen board is used for most
  • The two usable sides let you work with one side for one ingredient and flip for another without interrupting the cooking process to wash between tasks
  • Bamboo surface is firm enough that food does not slide around during cutting, and does not flex or bow in the middle under knife pressure the way thinner plastic boards sometimes do
  • The board sits flat on the worktop without rocking — the base is level and does not tip when you are working at the edges
  • Light enough to lift and carry to the table or hob when using it as a serving or prep surface away from the main work area

Where This Gets Used

Daily meal prep — vegetables, fruit, herbs and bread are the most common everyday uses where a compact board earns its keep

  • Cheese and charcuterie serving — the natural bamboo surface looks presentable enough to bring to the table as a serving board for cheese, cold meats and crackers
  • Bread slicing — bamboo surface gives enough grip under the loaf to slice without the board moving, and the size handles a standard loaf comfortably
  • Small kitchen use — the 30x20cm size suits kitchens where worktop space is limited and a large board would take up more room than the task requires
  • Student and first home setup — a straightforward, good quality board at a size and weight that suits a smaller kitchen without needing anything more

Practical Notes

  • Wash by hand with warm soapy water and a sponge after each use — bamboo is a natural material and repeated dishwasher cycles will eventually cause the board to dry out and crack along the grain
  • Rinse and dry thoroughly after washing — standing water left on a bamboo board over time will cause the surface to swell and the board to warp
  • Do not soak in water or leave submerged — the same reason applies, bamboo absorbs water if given enough time and contact
  • Occasional light oiling with food-safe mineral oil keeps the board in good condition and prevents the surface from drying out and splitting at the edges over time
  • Do not use metal scouring pads or abrasive cleaning powder on the surface — these scratch the bamboo and create grooves where bacteria can sit
