Two Adaptors, One Less Thing to Worry About

You pack the chargers, you pack the cables, you arrive at the hotel and the UK plug does not fit the European wall socket. It happens more often than it should and it is completely avoidable with the right adaptor in the bag. Important — What This Adaptor Does and Does Not Do

This adaptor changes the physical plug shape so your UK three-pin plug fits a European two-pin socket. That is all it does.

• It does not convert voltage. European mains voltage runs at 220-240V which is the same standard as the UK, so in practice this is not an issue for most appliances used across Europe
• Always check the voltage input range on your appliance or power supply before connecting — look for a label showing something like 100-240V input, which means it accepts both UK and European supply without any problem. Most modern phone chargers, laptop power bricks and camera chargers are dual voltage
• Single-voltage appliances rated for UK use only — some older hairdryers, certain heated styling tools and some kitchen appliances — may not be suitable for use abroad even with this adaptor. Check the label on the appliance itself before plugging in

It does not cover the UK, Ireland, Malta, Cyprus or countries outside Europe that use different socket formats.

Practical Notes

• The European output socket accepts standard two-round-pin plugs — if your European appliance has a larger earth pin in addition to the two round pins, check compatibility before assuming it will fit
