12-Inch Oscillating Desk Fan — Three Speeds, Silent Motor, Two Colours

A desk fan that actually covers a room rather than just one spot in front of it. The oscillating head sweeps back and forth continuously, distributing airflow from the 12-inch / 30cm blade across the full width of the room. Three push-button speed settings — low for background airflow during sleep, medium for everyday room cooling, and high for direct cooling on the hottest days. The motor runs silently and smoothly — no hum, no vibration, no clicking from the oscillation mechanism. The mesh safety grill surrounds the blades on all sides. Available in black and white — the same fan in both, matching different room colour schemes.

The 12-Inch Blade — Why Size Matters

A 9-inch desk fan moves a limited volume of air. You feel it clearly if you're sitting directly in front of it and significantly less so if you're two metres away or to the side. A 12-inch / 30cm blade moves considerably more air per rotation — the fan creates a meaningful breeze throughout the room rather than just in its immediate line.

Combined with the oscillating head, the airflow reaches all parts of the room in each sweep — the person at the desk, someone on the sofa across the room, and the warm air near the ceiling that needs to be disturbed and circulated to lower the overall room temperature. The extra blade size is what makes the difference between a fan that helps and one that's mostly decorative.

Three Speed Settings — What Each One Is For

Speed 1 — Low: The quietest setting. At low speed the motor is barely audible from a normal conversation distance. This is the bedroom setting — cool airflow overnight without sound that interrupts sleep. Also appropriate for office use during calls or video meetings where background fan noise would be picked up by the microphone.

Speed 2 — Medium: The everyday setting. More airflow than speed 1 without the increased motor sound of speed 3. Right for a living room during a warm afternoon, a kitchen during cooking, or an office on a day when low just isn't keeping things comfortable enough.

Speed 3 — High: Full output. Maximum blade speed, maximum air volume. For the hottest days when you need direct, strong cooling rather than a background breeze. Noticeably louder than speed 1 but still within the range that most people find acceptable for daytime use.

Push-button controls sit on the base of the fan — press 1, 2, or 3 to select the speed. The controls are clearly labelled so there's no need to work out which position is which speed.

Silent Oscillation — Why It Matters

Oscillating fans fall into two categories — ones whose oscillation mechanism runs quietly and ones that click, knock, or grind as the head turns. The clicking type is bearable in a living room but becomes disruptive in a bedroom or study where background noise is noticeable.

This fan's oscillation mechanism is silent. The head turns smoothly throughout its arc without any sound from the pivot point or motor housing. Set it oscillating in a bedroom and the movement won't wake anyone sleeping nearby. Use it in an office and the oscillation won't be audible on calls.

The oscillation also means you don't need to aim the fan at one specific person or area — set it going and the airflow reaches different parts of the room on each sweep.

Mesh Safety Grill

The grill that surrounds the fan blades is a close-mesh design — the gaps between the mesh wires are small enough that fingers, particularly children's fingers, can't reach through to the rotating blades during operation. The grill wraps around the full diameter of the blade on both the front and back faces.

The mesh design allows air to pass through freely without significantly restricting the airflow that the blade generates — a poorly designed grill can reduce fan output noticeably. The mesh on this fan is open enough that airflow isn't blocked while still providing proper blade protection.

Black or White — Which Colour to Choose

Black — the all-black finish works in darker-toned rooms and on dark wood desks, shelving, and furniture. The black fan becomes part of the room rather than a visually prominent object in it. Common choice for bedrooms, studies, and home offices where a neutral or dark colour scheme is in use.

White — the all-white finish matches white goods, white furniture, and light-coloured rooms. The white model also conforms to the BS EN 60335-2 electrical safety standard and includes a BS mains plug. Suits kitchens, living rooms, and any space with a predominantly white or light colour palette.

Both versions have identical performance — three speeds, silent oscillation, 12-inch blade, mesh grill, and 230V UK mains operation.
